What is Lichen Planus ?

Typical skin and mucosal condition. Mild to severe swelling irritation in the skin, hair, nails and mucous membranes. Lichen planus-affected skin develops purple flat bumps with moderate to severe itching. Normally it takes several weeks to develop these symptoms. Women are more susceptible to lichen planus

  • Non-contagious skin problem
  • An autoimmune disorder.
  • body’s ability to produce melanin pigment reduces
  • resulting in skin discoloration
  • typical white liaisons and patches on the skin.
  • Can occur in any part of the body

There are Six types of Lichen Planus:

  • 1) Cutaneous lichen planus
  • 2) Mucosal lichen planus
  • 3) Lichen planopilaris
  • 4) Lichen planus of the nails
  • 5) Lichen planus pigmentosus
  • 6) Lichenoid drug eruption

Non-Segmental Leucoderma – It begins with a short-lived burst of discoloration, but non-segmental Leucoderma affects both sides of the body and expands with new cycles of pigment loss over the course of life.

Symptoms

The most common symptoms are shiny red or purple bumps. · Mouth: Lichen planus inside your mouth looks like lacy patches of tiny white dots.

Factors contribute to Lichen Planus

  • Gene makeup, Excess emotional and physical stress, Damage to the skin, skin injury due to surgeries, etc. Some kinds of allergies, a Side effect of some medicines, Herpes, and hepatitis may act as predisposing factors, Usage of chemical-loaded soaps and shampoos, Taking too many oily and spicy foods, Some kind of food allergies, Sedentary lifestyle, Vitamin D deficiency.
